Blue Winged Eyes

I was experimenting with Eyeshadows :)

I wanted to try out a midly dramatic sharp eye makeup... and here's the result:

I did a sort of high wing with blue eyeshadow.

And here's what I used:

The dark blue-purple eyeshadow in the Opia eye palette:

This is what I put on the very top - a dark colour so as to accentuate the wing. I didn't really want much blending so...

The very dark grey eyeshadow which, when in photos, appears as a metallic blue colour:

Yes I used the dark one... almost all over the lid then I blended it with the blue one.

Then you add everything else: mascara, eyeliner, blush, lipstick... and here you go!

Ecotools Foundation Brush REVIEW

First of all, I find that the packaging is very nice. It might be plastic in the front but at the back it's made of green fabric, which is in turn protected by a layer of plastic. (and not any kind of plastic, but a very resistant one!)

Very well presented and already gives us a good impression of the product. It's neatly stitched all around, but don't worry. You don't need to spoil this lovely packaging to get the brush. It has an opening in the front, which can be sealed and unsealed as much as you want.

When I removed the brush from its pouch I was afraid that the bristles would detach themselves, but they didn't!

I was very much impressed by such an excellent quality at such a reasonable price! The bristles are really soft and from now on putting on my foundation has become my favourite part in the wearing makeup process. The wooden handle is very user-friendly, as if it was made for my hand and fingers. It blends the foundation well onto my face and thanks to the shape of the bristles, I can sneak into the small corners of my face!

It is a wonderful product and I can't wait to get hold of the rest of the collection! :)

Black Emerald - L'Oreal Perfection Eyeshadow Review + EOTD

Have you ever heard of the L'Oreal Perfection eyeshadows? I received the Black Emerald one from my aunt and... god! It is a jewel!

As most of you know, I'm a big fan of Morgana in Merlin BBC series and this green eyeshadow suits her evil and witchy style so well!

She should have had this eyeshadow on. You'll understand why soon.

It has an ashy tone and in photos the black colour is more vivid than the green, but in reality, the green and black are balanced. It has some shimmer in it and is medium pigmented.

I wore it for the first time on a daytime event so I didn't put on much because I didn't aim for anything dramatic, though this colour is sure to be perfect for dramatic makeup because of its dark devilish aspect...

(yes I know, I cut my hair :P)

I simply completely the eye look with some black mascara and black eyeliner.

And I made the eyeshadow fade upwards.
As I said I didn't put on that much, but I put a little bit more on the outer corner of my eye to create a better effect - it should not be uniform everywhere, you see. And of course I added a little bit of white eyeshadow on my tear duct.

I know, I went rather dramatic with the eyeliner... but well I couldn't help myself! I love to be witchy haha!

Pros:
- I totally love the colour: black emerald is very original!
- it didn't crease or smear, although it was daytime and it was hot, thus it is long-lasting and resistant.
- because it's dark, you don't need to apply much for a nice effect.
- it makes my brown eyes pop!
- it doesn't fall out that much.

Cons:
- the shimmer is great but I'd prefer it if it was a matt eyeshadow (I'm just bored of shimmering e/s)
- because I don't expect much of eyeshadows (compared to foundation which I choose with much care and critical eyes) thus I can't find any cons, except maybe that it might not work for everyone, because we are all different and we react differently to all things.

Hi guys! This Friday we had hosted a party at school (all the Lower 6's of the school) and the theme was Hollywood. The thing was that we didn't have much time to really prepare it all so I couldn't go and buy specific clothes to disguise into a specific pop star. Anyway we had fun!

And yes, I did three makeovers: for my two friends, Alexandra and Daksha, and for myself. Enjoy!

My 10 Favourite Makeup Channels!

1. Misschievous

I happened to watch her vids because I was searching for a sort of halloween makeup look and her variety of ideas is very helpful! She also was the one who taught me the basics of makeup.

2. MakeupGeekTV

I then began to look for something much more wearable, simple... and here's what I found! Her tips, reviews... very nice!

3. Michelle Phan

I came upon her channel out of the blue if I remember that well ;) she's so famous! Very useful tips, not only about makeup but also about clothes...

4. From Head To Toe

I soon realised that if I wanted to improve in makeup I first had to know my eyes a little bit more... i.e I'm a monolid so I had to learn the proper ways to apply my makeup on this type of eye! The effects are indeed different... but in the end I could adopt double lids makeup style to my monolids :) thanks to practice! and to this channel! *for monolids :)*

5. TheMakeupChair

I discovered this channel while I was wondering about the job of being a makeup artist... :) She gives tips on it and it helps a lot! Of course her makeup is awesome too! In addition she uses affordable products that we can all buy like ELF.

6. KandeeJohnson

Kandee Kandee... A one of a kind makeup artist!! :D Amiable, funny she has a sincere approach to her audience... Always cheerful and very talented ^^

7. Pursebuzz

Very famous channel too and its variety seduced me :) She mostly talk about fashion in general... shares her opinions... etc.

She's very supportive and kind. Her makeup is cute and simple ;) and her style is just ♥!

I love Ferrero Rocher! Makeup Look

I love chocolate and most of all... Ferrero Rocher! Don't you? ^^

I tried to do a makeup look based on its golden package...

It was great but when I took the shoots for this post... well the gold turned out greenish! Arg!

A wearable look :)

So make as if the green is gold ^^

Makeup Is Art's 2012 Overview and Plans

I don't know how it will be this year, but I have always planned my posts and all to keep you entertained and maintain my student life at the same time. This year I'd do the same except that it will be in a more organised way and I wanted to share with you my blogging idea for 2012.

I've very much enjoyed 2011 especially because I discovered so much about the blogging community and makeup. And I feel like I'm going to like 2012 even more. But I don't know what can happen when school will start (in a week).

This year demands more hardwork at school and I'll be taking more tuitions. I'll have to concentrate on that.
Moreover I'm not only a makeup blogger; I also have another blog I'm determined to maintain as well as this one. (click HERE to check it out - it's a personal blog)
Then I'm also going to work on my very first novel, and hoping to get published (my dream!!).
And I can't mention the time I have to steal to spare those lovely other blogs outside a visit and a comment :)

So here's the plan for 2012.
(at least until I get a better one :P)

I remember when I first started this blog I posted almost everyday but as time passed and ideas began to lessen, I limited myself to 3 posts at least per week. Then it decreased to 2/week as I was gaining followers. Why?
Because I wanted for all my readers to have the opportunity to see all of my posts. After all no one really has the time to visit the same blog everyday so if I posted everyday many would miss a lot of posts... you know what I mean? And when life gets in the way... I'm too busy on normal days anyway to post everyday. I always have to travel a lot you see and I get tired.

So for 2012, I will be posting twice a week. (on special occasions maybe 3 i.e. when I get lots of inspiration all at once i.e. when I'll have to wear makeup often)
I will be posting every Thursdays and Sundays.

On Thursdays: A beauty blogger and a youtube guru will be featured on my blog to share with you from where I sometimes get my inspiration for posts. :) in hoping that it will all entertain and help you!
And also because I won't be selfish anymore ;D I have to stop talking about myself all the time xD

On Sundays: Any of my usual posts - makeup looks, reviews... (^.^)
But this will not include awards - this type of posts will be then a 3rd post for the week.

So that's it. I won't tire your eyes any longer.

Starting the New Year... With a New Makeup Bag!

Hi my awesome followers and readers,
This is my first post of this new year 2012! :D Firstly I want to wish you a happy new year! Hope you all had fun for the holidays!

A new and fresh year has begun and I am thankful to all of you my readers for your support :) I have reached more than 100 followers and about 14k views in less than a year thanks to you all! Love you guys ♥

My dear friend and cousin @Idleshooter (on Twitter - check her out and follow her!) has given me a beautiful gift: a makeup bag!!

It's so big compared to my other ones and very appropriate for travelling :)

The designs remind me that I have an umbrella with almost similar printed letters... As a writer-in-progress (yep it's true) - thus a words addict - I love it! :) Perfect for me!

Here's how it looks inside:

A brush holder and a small mirror included! Awesome, right? :)

About new year's resolutions... well I don't usually do this. I just wishes that this year brings more progress to this blog... and to yours too!

Grape Nails

My grandma surprised me this Christmas by giving me a gorgeous purple nail polish:

It's called Grape, no.10 by Miss Beauty Nail polish.

I wore it on Christmas day and on the day after too. And I put on only one coat! It's resistant and has a thick, opaque but shiny formula. I love it!
I didn't find any flaws yet.

Eye-Makeup for the Holidays

We're still in holidays though and we have yet begun to celebrate New Year! :)

As it's been such a long time since I did not do any makeup look, I decided to create a special Christmas and New Year one.
(I usually don't wear makeup for the holidays because I stay at home and I celebrate with my little family... not doing a full family party you know LOL). So here it is:

The holidays are always associated with gorgeous golds and reds... and that's what I was reaching for...

1. What are you doing for the holidays this year?
Well like any other year I'm doing Sister Christmas (searching for gifts for my family) and most of all I'm working in my family shop which is currently selling toys. All the family works together especially on the 24th when I won't sleep until 01.00. But I love it. I love how we all spend time together - workers and family - eating and celebrating all together... while looking out for clients. It's a weird way to spend Christmas but... not unpleasant at all and very original.

2. What's your favourite holiday drink?
I don't have a favourite but lately I've been craving for Cappucino. LOL.

3. Candy Cane or Gingerbread man?
Well I always feel like I'm still a child during the holidays and thus I'd definitely choose Candy Cane! Yay :)

4. What's your favourite Christmas song?
I don't think I have a favourite but I love listening to Last Christmas in any version... then there's also this:

That was sent to me by my family in Canada to wish us a Merry Christmas... and I definitely fell in love with it! :D

5. Have you ever made a Snowman?
Nope because I've never even seen or touched snow for real... I live in a tropical island so...

6. What's your favourite winter fragance?
I don't have any favourites because there isn't really winter here... but I think I'd love the smell of pines :) And does Jasmine count?

I don't remember the name but there was this animation that I used to watch every Christmas when I was small... It was about an old man who hated Christmas and forced orphans to work for him. Then one day one of the children accidentally played a nice tune on a xylophone and this is how all the children ended up singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas..."...

8. Are you on the Naughty List or on the Nice List?
Hehe I'd say on the Nice list. This time of the year can really soothen my 'evil' tendencies LOL

Haha but unfortunately I don't have one. Sending cards have never really been necessary because we all saw one another, we were all close and... well gifts were pricey enough to forget buying a card :P

At home :D with all my family united!

I'd love to but as I said I don't really have a favourite... but I remember that some years ago I sang Christmas carols with a group of other students for Christmas. If I had recorded that I would definitely have shown you!

No. On Christmas Eve I put presents under the tree for my little siblings :D

Oh no lol! I only know Rudolf haha!

Placing the presents under the tree! :)

Fake. It's too hot here to even think of buying a real one.

For Christmas the food we eat is so out-of-common: we eat briani!!! It's so so delicious with its spicy taste and juicy chicken and melting potatoes:

Sincerely I like both. Really. It's as fun to receive than to give.

This was when I receive a surprise gift for Christmas. Usually I always know what I'm going to get because I ask for my gifts (list of gifts for Santa lol) but one this very Christmas my parents surprised me.
Dan Brown's latest novel "The Lost Symbol" has just come out and I badly wanted it + the guide that came with it -- but that is paid apart. And this is what I got for Christmas. I didn't think that I would get the two books as a present because I always buy my books and my mother always complains because they're pricey and that I have too many books so... and well... I was shocked! This was the best gift I ever got. Thanks mom, thanks dad.

24. What made you realise the truth about Santa?
Rumours at school and the discovery of the stock of presents already wrapped hidden upstairs... :P Fortunately I wasn't that surprised. I was growing up.

25. Do you make New Year's resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I mainly write down everything I wish for the year to come in a special copybook that I don't open at all during the whole year until next January. Then I check what wish came true and cross what didn't and start the list all over again. I like to let fate follow its own stream instead of trying to change it. Thus I don't really make a list of new year's resolution. I know that I always change anyway.

26. What makes the Holidays special for you?
Spending awesome time with my family, friends (real and internet ones) and unique summer moments all together :)

My First M.A.C brush!! :)

Yes I finally bought my very first MAC brush! I got at a special women gathering...
It's the MAC 182 brush :)

For the time being I love everything about this brush...

I use it to settle my makeup with power. It's sort of a very fluffy, soft kabuki brush. So gentle on my face... ♥

Maybe the only disadvantage is that some fibres are already coming out as some are longer than others, but well only maybe two? fibres of the brush actually came off...

Anyway, this brush catches the powder very well and deposits it on your skin at an immediate contact. I love it!

What are your favourite MAC brushes? I'm surely going to stalk for them! :P

There are so many brands and products that I can't have in my country or that it's out of stock or that I have yet to buy (and that I will) or that I can't afford. thus these all end up in my makeup wishlist and as it's Christmas time, I guess I'd better post it! ^^ Though it might become longer as time goes by LOL

So here goes the list:

1. Clinique Lash Building Primer

I've heard so many good reviews about this but unfortunately makeup products by clinique is being discontinued in my country.

2. Bourjois Mineral Matte Mousse Foundation (no. 85)

My skin colour is unfortunately unavailable :(

3. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

I've heard so much positive reviews on bourjois foundations so if I can't get the mousse, I'll get the liquid! :)

4. All About Cheeks - NARS

Omg this palette looks awesome! And I might not have told you, but I'm in love with my cheeks and this is where I prefer putting on makeup... Surely because I wear specs so I don't do much with my eyes most of the time, therefore I concentrate on my cheeks the most.

5. A whole brush kit

The dream of any makeup lover :)

6. Finally a good lip palette

It's awesome to be able to mix colours and create your own colours right? :) and having such a variety in one palette... that's wow!

Shades Of Greys // Eyeshadows Review

I've been searching for grey eyeshadows lately and I could find three different shades! :) They're all cheap, drugstore products made in Asia - and for eyeshadows I don't really mind, compared to foundations (which I better search for the expensive ones), because even though they are sometimes nameless and not-that-good quality, I find that they are long-lasting enough, very pigmented and doesn't irritate my eyes at all!

Isn't that a great deal? :)
It's true that my skin is very strong too and not sensitive at all...

Here are the three grey eyeshadows I bought:

This is a medium bronze-like grey. It comes with a small brush - the usual ones...

Next it's a two-in-one palette:

There are two greys - a pale one and a very dark blue metallic one.

In fact I didn't realise that the first one had a bronze shimmer or that the dark grey in the two-in-one palette had a blue metallic hue in it until I applied it on my lids and took some photos...

I just tried to blend all three starting from the tear duct area with the palest grey, then the medium grey in the middle and the dark one on the outer corner... simply to find the difference.

That's weird because when I look at myself into the mirror I find that they are all plain greys with no hues or undertones of bronze or blue... but in the photos it's clear that there are!

Alright so now, as you have - maybe - seen the purpose of this sort of tag is to take our flaws into consideration. No one is perfect, no even beauty gurus or bloggers. We are like everyone else. And now it's time to prove this.

My Flaws (things I don't like):
My nose always get so red!
I have some pimples on my cheeks and under my lower lip.
My eyelashes are straight and face downwards.
My upper lip is darker than my lower lip.

Things I love:
I find that as a monolid the shape of my eyes are sort of unique and thus it's more challenging and fun to create looks :)
My fat cheeks!!
My not-sensitive skin.
My not-too-thin and not-too-thick lips.

High Priestess of The Triple Goddess -Makeup-

Where does that title come from?
Well "High Priestess of the Triple Goddess" has been one of the most awesome description of Morgana Le Fay in Merlin BBC series, played by Katie McGrath, and during my weekend vacation at Le Victoria Hotel (see on previous post here), I decided to play with green colours for my makeup when I was getting ready to go home.
And green and black are the two colours of Morgana :)

I know the lighting sucks! >< sorry for that but I really wanted to share this with you because it is far the best Morgana eye makeup look I've done for now.

Perfect for monolids! And I did this with my fingers only! Let me give you a tip: don't wipe out the fall outs, because it creates a nice shimmer under my eyes, although you can't really see that on the photos... but I like how it came out :)

Moreover it's very wearable - for a high priestess look xD

Cute Makeup Travel Bags + FOTN

This weekend I went to stay at Le Victoria Hotel with my family... a complete abandon to another world... to the relaxing ambiance, away from urban life... :)

And of course, I'm going to show you, what makeup bags I used!! I brought two small ones because I didn't have the perfect bag which would keep all my makeup together... al least, not yet!
The first one is this cute square bag that I recently bought because of its skulls...

All the basics fit in it! :) The only problem is that... my brushes don't fit!! And my eyelash curler, and my foundation... :P and because I did not know yet what eyeshadow colour I would use, I decided to bring my palette and thus I carried this too:

Cute too, right? :)

For dinner at the hotel, here's my face of the night:

The eye makeup is soo simple! I made a sort of wing with an eyeshadow - didn't even use any brush for that - then smoked it out.

As monolids don't have a crease, there is thus no 'barrier' on my lid... if you get what I mean... I can smoke the wing as far as I want and even into my hair and it'll still look so beautiful! But well we shouldn't get too crazy ^^

Have I just written nonsense? xD

I love it when my eyes are open... as if the eyeshadow just fades out of my eye...

I used a dark brown eyeshadow by the way and a black one. Simple blending... very quick makeup ^^ but lovely nevertheless!

Anyone Has This Tried Out...?

On Monday, I went through a makeup store who sold Bourjois products because I was interested in buying the Mineral Mousse Matt Foundation one...

It's my very first mineral product so I was really excited and I've read good reviews on it, and it was affordable compared to Maybelline's Mineral Powder Foundation.

In fact I was to try out something new, i.e. no liquid foundation so I opted for mousse.

The woman at the counter gave me testers, and truly, I was surprised of the texture. I loved it! Well it felt weird for the first few instants because I've never touched mousse makeup products before but I really liked how, when I applied it on my hand, it gives a nice coverage and does not require much product to achieve that. I mean, a small quantity was enough!

Unfortunately, what I was apprehending for happened: there was not a colour available that matched my skin tone!

The woman told me that there was no. 85 that could work for me but it was out of stock, so I'll have to wait. I tried on the tester of the no. 85 and it's true that it blends better with my skin colour, though it's not really exactly the same.

Anyway, I asked her when it would be in stock and she was not sure, but she asked me to call the shop later.

I really hope I can get my hands onto this product!

Have you ever tried this? What are your thoughts on it?

How I store my makeup [as a Starter!]

I'm so sorry guys for being MIA but this week has been a heavy one for me! There was my parents' 20th wedding anniversary, then my cousin's 7th birthday, and finally the christening of my little cousin, who is now my godson!! Yeah I'm a godmother ^^

Anyway, since my exams are now over, my sister and I had rearranged my makeup storage - I do not have that much because I'm still a beginner therefore everything was in a bag. So now I've emptied a whole drawer in my desk and this is where my makeup goes! :)

(It's the middle drawer)

So here it is...
When my sister and I placed everything in it... I realised that in fact I don't have that much makeup, but that doesn't prevent me from doing great looks, right :D
Less is more? xD

I placed the products I use the most in front like eyeshadow palettes, while at the back I placed less urgent products like disposable mascara wands, a spare eyelash curler...

Upon the drawers:

These are my go-to-the-bathroom things - baby oil, hair clips and my face wash...

I also put apart the products that I always use when I put on makeup. They're in a small bag, so that if I'm in a hurry I just grab the bag and go! :)

I have all my essentials in it :)

Then I have a special makeup bag when I put all my lip products...

So that's it! :D

Useful Empties!

I don't suggest you to throw away an empty makeup container, as some can be very useful and save you the money of buying jars.
Okay here's what I mean:
I've been recently searching through my mom's makeup to collect some empties, and adding mine, here they all are:

What I've got:
- Elite Illuminating Foundation flask
- Avon SuperShock Mascara in black
- Avon Magical Mascara Curl in dark brown
- A Korean concealer
- ever bilena lasting colours eyeshadow palette
- Glitter Gel Elegant Touch container

These are not too much, but each has its own unique utility.

Elite Illuminating Foundation flask

No it's not foundation that's inside, or else it wouldn't be in the list of empties. It's my homemade primer which still works well with me!
Pretty cool uh?
A pumping flask is also better than a pot or container; I heard that it's more hygienic.

The Mascara tubes

Seriously it's hard and time consuming to complete clean mascara tubes so I'd just throw them away, but I'll definitely keep the wands!

Awesome! Now I have two spare mascara wands, a big and a small one! It's useful to have a collection of clean and various types of wands... and thus create different effects with the same mascara :)

The Korean concealer

It's small and cute and thus very fit for a short travel. You can bring some foundation or primer in it, especially for those who don't need to apply a lot.

Ever bilena lasting colours eyeshadow palette

It used to contain two eyeshadows, and if you need to travel for a short time, and you don't use eyeshadow a lot, this is a great tool! You don't want to bring along your palette, especially if you are staying at your cousin's house for only maybe 2 days without having to attend a big occasion. And maybe two eyeshadows are enough for you then.
Therefore just scrap some of the wanted e/s off the big palette and put an adequate amount in this vacant small eyeshadow palette.
And you're ready to go! Yeah :)

Glitter Gel Elegant Touch container

Pretty useful in the same above situation, this time if you need only one eyeshadow.
I mainly use this to make mixes... you know, for example when I want to make my own primer or when I mix eyeshadow colours to create a new unique colour...

Small watercolour paint pots/small containers are almost very useful to store makeup and here's how I used one HERE.

Purple And Black

Yesterday I went a birthday party - my uncle's fiancée's, and here how I wore my makeup:

In a darker lighting:

Lips:
A Korean brand lipgloss in an orange colour, that I so love very much! I mean that one:

Cheeks:
I used my L.A. Colors bronzer and Etude House's corset blush - as always! I so love the combination of the two!

Brows:
I usually go for a dark brown eyeshadow but on that night when I was done with the eye makeup, my brows looked too pale so I added some darkness with a black L.A. Colors brow pencil.

Eyes:

I used the vivid colours of my Kiss Beauty eyeshadow palette: white, pale lilac, purple and black.
Then I lined my eyes, especially the lower lash line and waterline, with my Avon eyepencil in black.
Mascara: Maybelline The Falsies Waterproof

I put on my specs and I was ready to go!

An Angel's Makeup

Hi guys I'm sorry for not posting that much but since last week I didn't feel very good - mainly mentally - I was totally depressed! You know how it goes with teenagers...

Anyway on Sunday we celebrated my grandma's birthday and my outfit was like... very similar to a modern angel!
Mainly here's what I bought on Saturday for this special day:

When I wore this I really thought I had on an exclusive angel top! For a moment I mistook myself for an angel... lol! it's so beautiful! I love it!

I also bought these as they match perfectly with my angelic top:

These were all perfect coincidences! :)
For the birthday, I matched the angel's top with a pair of black shorts, then black and white high heeled shoes.

Then I added - as accessories - my white watch (of course I never go out without it) and a set of lovely bracelets:

And finally, the makeup:

Sorry the lighting wasn't that good and I had had to struggle to put on makeup because it had been such a hot day. I couldn't stop sweating, and especially my eye makeup did not come out as good as I had expected...

Anyway, I was rather satisfied.

The Art Of Blending

Why can't I post more frequently for you guys? *sigh* NaNoWriMo is killing me LOL!

I have been requested by Stephanie Ayu (check out her lovely fashion blog: http://linconnuedeindochine.blogspot.com) to make a tutorial on blending.

So basically, blending is very important in all arts. It is a way to make your piece of work unique and to create new designs and colours. It's very fun and very easy.

I just applied a beautiful turquoise colour, without blending. Plain and simple. My mother does that every day, and although I keep on telling her that she should add some variations she never does, she doesn't really bother...

Well I don't blame her as so many women do that too, although those who have been playing with makeup all their life! (like my mom)
But doesn't that look way too simple? Unprofessional? Beginner-like? Yes it does. It does especially for those who notice it, ike us, makeup addicts.

That is why blending is important. If I wear my makeup like that, people who like it can easily replicate it. But makeup is art, and your art should be unique, almost like an enigma, people should feel what they do feel when they look at a beautiful painting, and think: "wow how did he/she do that??"

If you've achieved that you're a artist. :)

Enough with palabras! Now firstly, what are the tools used for blending?

1. Almost everyone uses a blending brush:

But not all people do, and I don't, because I'm trying to buy a good quality one, and I've heard of the awesome Sigma brushes, so I'm still saving :) It's easy to buy them online but my parents don't really agree with that so, I guess I'll have to wait.
But if you can afford one or you already have one, well it's the perfect tool for blending!

2. My fingers!!

This is my very available and cheapest tool for blending LOL and it also helps to remove some eyeshadow excess.

3. Eyeshadows

Yes, eyeshadows and what I mean by that is that you can layer your lids, i.e. you applied the eyeshadow you want and then you take another one but lighter that the current eyeshadow and apply it just on top, on the harsh border, then apply another lighter eyeshadow until you reach your skin tone. I do that in my gradient technique, and one example is my Halloween makeup HERE.

Three Blending Techniques

Today I will show you 3 blending techniques, and these work for all eye shapes! The first one is the gradient effect, which I've already mentioned.

Do you understand what I mean now? From a dark eyeshadow up to a lighter one... blend blend blend!! It's like it's gradually fading into your skin colour, right?

The second one, I don't know what to call it... maybe horizontal blending? Let's clear your mind a little bit:

Mainly, you blend from light to dark from the inner corner of your eyes to the outer corner.
I used three different eyeshadows here: white, turquoise and dark blue. For asians, it's better if you don't go too up high, just stop when you feel your socket - where a crease would have been if we were not monolids. In opposite, the gradient effect can take all the lids' space.

Number 3 is the outer V technique, and you can read more about it HERE. It's a wonderful makeup blogger known as Diane who did a wonderful tutorial on it.

Here's an outer V that I did not blend, the lines are still harsh.

And when I blended the colours I got:

This just looks more natural right, especially that I used neautral colours.
I mainly used 3 eyeshadows: white for the inner corner, dark brown for the outer V and a shade rather close to my skin colour in the middle. You can add some glitter in the middle or an very vibrant colour - it'll be so beautiful! and will make your eyes pop.

Here's another blended outer V, but with brighter colours so that you can more clearly see the blending technique.

Conclusion:
Blending is all about removing any harsh lines, and make your makeup look unique!

3 Fun Asian Makeup Looks

Hi guys I'm so sorry that I've been MIA a lot these days. I'm still struggling with my exams and since November 1st I had a lot to do especially because this year I'm taking part in the annual event: NaNoWriMo!

I have to write a novel of 50 000 words in one month from 1st November to 3oth November. It's a crazy challenge I know but writing has always been my greatest passion! I hope I'll be able to do it!

Anyway today I wanted to share with you 3 fun asian makeup looks I saw on internet that I'd love to recreate one day:

Special Halloween post!! EOTD + OOTD

It's finally Halloween/Samhain's Eve today!! Though I've told you before that we don't celebrate Halloween, I've nevertheless prepared a special Halloween makeup and outfit :)

For Halloween I've been mainly inspired by Morgana in Merlin BBC series (as I love her so much :D) and by her new witchy look in season 4:

She is wearing gorgeous green makeup!
So I've decided to mainly concentrated my look on the colours black and green - the two colours that have always been associated with witches I don't exactly know why.

Halloween Makeup:

*Asian eyes are different from Western ones and therefore the techniques I use might not work for everyone.*

So what I did mainly was to firstly put on the green eyeshadow from my Opia Eyeshadow palette as a base. The lids are supposed to be completely greenish for this exaggerated witchy look :P

Now the technique I used is called the gradient effect. Mainly, apply the darkest or most flashy eyeshadow on the part of the lid nearer to your lashes and you keep on adding the same colour but in a more subtle tone as you go up...

In my case I used all the green eyeshadows I had both from the Opia eyeshadow palette and the Kiss Beauty one.
I used the brightest green first then went up with a duller green as you can see. I even added some white to add this shimmer near my tear duct (inner corner of my eye). As Asian don't have a crease I've figured out for the time being that the gradient effect - be it from dark to bright or bright to dull like I did - is very beautiful on monolids. :)
Anyway that's my opinion!

On the lower it's just like anyone else - brightest eyeshadow in the corner going to a duller one (sort of the gradient effect but in a horizontal way this time lol)...

To finish the eye makeup, I simply lined my eyes 100% with my black Avon eyeliner and added some mascara! :)

For the cheek I only put on my L.A. Colors Bronzer - I don't want my face to be too bright. It adds a more natural colour to all this witchy-ness :D
Then for the lips I just went crazy:
I ONLY use my pink Qilaiyi lip liner! No gloss, nothing else! What I like with this pencil is that it's smooth and the colour is great! The texture doesn't feel dry or moist... I feel as if there's nothing on my lips. But indeed when I look into the mirror I find gorgeous pink lips staring back! xD

What the hell am I wearing??

First of all, do you remember this post where I did my last shopping haul when I bought how many similar tank tops of different colours?
So I took the green one - green not only for the 'witchy' feel but also because I love Ireland which is often represented with the green colour. I decided to design it a little bit thanks to textile paint:

It's of the 'Ash' colour - a gorgeous dark grey...

And with this I painted THIS on my tank top:

Yeah!! Eire Go Brách!! :) It means 'Ireland forever' in Irish LOL yeah I know I'm obsessed... but well it's always so fun to design your own t-shirts. I did more HERE.

Anyway it's very hot here - we've just entered summer season! Therefore I simply matched an ash-grey pair of shorts with the top:

Not very Halloweeny I know but well... :) I always try my best to celebrate even when people don't celebrate. If that makes sense.

Jewellery?

As you've noticed in the previous photos, I'm wearing my usual purple pentacle - I always do for a Celtic festival... and Halloween is a very important one because it is their New Year's Eve! :)

This is my special handmade Samhain's bracelet. I did it last year for this very special festival :) Yay Halloween!!

And of course... my favourite trend of the moment: feather earrings!!! I'm a total fan of these! I have them in many colours. For Halloween of course I'll wear the black pair. I've been searching for the green one but unfortunately they didn't have it at my store. Or else I'd wear on one ear a green feather earring and on the other a black one. I love mixing the colours concerning feather earrings!

Finally the crucial clothing of all witches:
A black hooded cape!

Indeed that's what I'm wearing on the first photo of this post. It's handmade too - I sewed it for my Morgan le Fay costume for a carnival at school earlier this year. I am very fond of this hood!! It really completes this Halloween witchy look!

L.I.P.S Series: A trend that Inspired Me...

One day I was in the bus, listening to my iPod as usual and watching the people outside, when a lovely Asian-African girl caught my attention. I usually like to see how other girls dress, specially of my age and know more about their makeup routines in the region.
What caught my eye was her lips. I don't know if she has some lipstick on but it seemed so. Her upper lip was darker than her lower lip and it was very gorgeous on her. I just noted to self: try this at home.

The colours were somewhat like that, and believe me, this lip trend fit perfectly on her especially because she had beautiful full lips and because she had dark skin. It was awesome and original!

My lips are originally like that though, they tend to get darker on the upper lip and around my lips. I've always tried to even this and apply pigmented lipsticks for my lips to become a one-colour only. But I've never actually thought of creating great lips by not hiding that. Instead...

Here I used my pink Qilaiyi lip liner and add some black eyeshadow to create a darker effect on top. And I must say that... it's not bad at all.

Now with the red! :)

This made me really think of something important on beauty. We should not hide or try to change things. Sometimes we just can go along with our flaws and make them so well presentable that they won't be flaws anymore.

"This or That?" Tag!!!

Hi guys! I found a tag that's going around on makeup blogs so I've decided to do it too :) It's called the "This or That?" tag and sounds like a lot of fun!

So let's do this!

Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eye liners, lipsticks and lip glosses or lose all your palettes and eye shadows?

Hmm, I think I'd rather lose all of my palettes and eyeshadows stuff because I don't use them that much anyway, not as much as compared to mascaras, eyeliners and lips things!

Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?

Omg that's a tricky! So um, I think I'll chop off my hair because here long hair is horrible! (hot weather) I can always wear wigs while it starts to grow back again...

Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Coral :) Pink is cute too but I think that coral creates a more subtle effect and I kind of like it that way ^^

If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or make up?

I think I'll buy makeup... Yes makeup because well I don't have loads of clothes but even simple plain clothes can have a lot of style and personalisation when you mix everything and combine them with some other accessories. I can create a new outfit everyday with what I have so. And anyway I'm greedy for makeup at the moment :D

Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick?

Eyeliner as lipstick definitely! :) There are some eyeliners - the pencil ones mainly - that can be used for lips too so...

Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Here there are neither of them but by what I saw on the internet Sephora sounds more interesting! :) It has much more variety of products.

Would you rather use only one eye shadow colour or one lip colour the rest of your life?

Alright this one is hard :P
I think I'll choose one lip colour because I don't wear that much on my lips and I mainly wear lipglosses anyway...

Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in the winter?

Summer clothes in winter! Then I'll just try to warm myself with the heater :P and anyway here winter is not that harsh...

Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

Dark nails utterly! I love black or grey or any dark colour on my nails :)

Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a pony tail or messy bun?

Pony tail is best for me :P Anyway I never wear my hair long enough to do anything with it.

Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?

I'd rather never be able to paint my nails! My lips get dried too easily and I don't wear nail polish that much...

Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

I prefer to sharpie them everyday LOL. No eyebrows at all is so weird! (my sole opinion - no offence!)

Would you rather live without make up or nail polish?

I'm not very fan of nail polishes so I'd definitely live without nail polish!

Opia Eyeshadow Palette: A review

This palette has been idle in my makeup stock for quite a long time... and I almost forgot about it!

The colours are very beautiful! I love them completely! It also came with an applicator...

The brush is not that bad and anyway, I've heard that Chinese girls love to use these instead of apart makeup brushes... so I'll do with it! :)

I really like the metallic purple colour! It's the most shimmery and pigmented of all four. I'm most disappointed with the dark purple one because it is a matt colour which isn't that pigmented so I have to apply it several times before I get a real good dark purple colour.

Eye makeup I created with the palette only...

I love how it became a metallic grey when I mixed the colours... :)

Then on the bottom lid I did a sort of rainbow effect... ^^

Have you ever heard of Opia makeup? What do you think of it?

Small Shopping Haul! + EOTD

Whew just came back from French exams... :P

Anyway, on Saturday I did some shopping... and I'll show you what I bought! :)

But first my Eye of the Day - what eye makeup look I wore on that day:

It's very simple, and that's why I don't usually share my usual EOTD. As a 16-year-old I won't go for much makeup when I go out (or else everyone stares at me weird! xD)
This time I wanted to share my EOTD because when I looked at myself in the mirror I thought of a beautiful name for this simple look: "Fairy Dust". That's because I wore a glittery metallic purple eyeshadow all around the lid and it looked like fairy dust... Unfortunately you can't really see the 'magic' of it in the photo but anyways... I added some coats of mascara then blush etc... and here I went!

Now the haul:
I bought...
1. Dark Grey L.A. Colors Nail Polish

I was searching for such a colour and this is perfect! Will try it after exams :)

2. Plain coloured Tank tops!!

Yeps 5 of the same model from Red Snapper. :) I really needed these especially as summer has already settled in and in addition I love to play with them... for e.g. I like to wear them with an unbuttoned blouse on top or a nice coat etc...

Very simple, cheap and comfortable :) US$3.45 each! I completely LOVE these!
So I bought neutral colours: black and white (hey now that I'm thinking I should've bought a brown one!!!), then I spotted this nice purple, and my favourite blue!! called 'cyan' ♥ and the green is for Ireland :D a country where I'm craving to go! (moreover I'm feeling very Irish as Samhain's Eve/Halloween is approaching because the traditions comes from there).

3. Skull!!!

Alright I didn't buy the skull of any dead (or alive) person, but a cute wristband ♥ I'm so in love with skulls!!!

MUG Challenge: Orange and Black

Early in this blog I used to participate in MakeupGeek's makeup challenges in their forum here.
Finding no luck and no time I've stopped to participate but this fornight's challenge really inspired me. It's based on Halloween, and the theme is 'Orange and Black', just like one of Marlena's great makeup tutorial video:

I guess she now wants us to create our own orange and black look, so I did it :)

Here's my Orange and Black makeup look:

I used:
-My Kiss Beauty palette for the orange base and bright orange all over the lid.
-Avon eyepencil liner in black
-for the fall-outs I used my Elite Ebony eyeshadow no.15
-Then finally my Maybelline Volum' Express Waterproof mascara

I really suggest that you join all the makeup community in the forum. It's very fun!

What are you Planning for Halloween?

We're in October and in a few weeks my favourite festival of all time will be occuring: Halloween or Samhain's Eve!
This post will not be on makeup, but it's important and I need to have some advice.

Without beating about the bush, let me tell you the problem: here, we never celebrate Halloween. It's just not part of our cultures as in Mauritius we are most of the Asian origins. In addition to that, on Monday I started my O-level exams and that's why I might not be posting much (I'm soo sorry for that!) and I will be taking part in these international exams until November 15 (arg!!). The horrible thing is that on October 31 I will have to sit at 2 examinations!!!

When I was young I always tried to celebrate Halloween by myself. I would beg my father to buy some black paper so that I could cut a witch's hat for this special day. When we had to go out on this date, I would always put on black witchy clothes (I didn't care whether everyone stared at me and I still don't) and last year I was having fun making bracelets and especially that I discovered that it was mainly a Celtic festival which celebrated New year... I also came to go to stay at a hotel with my best friend! It was a fun New Year's Eve!

But this year with so much to revise and with exams filling my whole Samhain's Eve day, I feel lost. I've never missed celebrating a Celtic festival and especially Halloween.

Do you have some suggestions for me? As it will be on a Monday everyone will be at work or a school or at home revising etc... then also I will come home late... Of course I will do my Parshall to replace my old one, but I'd really like to feel the magic of the celebration again this year...

Etude House Face Color Corset Blusher: A Review!

On Thursday afternoon, some clouded doubts that have taken their places over my mind since last month suddenly disappeared, by a package I received by air mail:

Flashback:
A month ago - something like that - The Korean Cosmetics online distributor contacted me by e-mail - it's a cosmetics company from Singapore - and asked me if I would allow them to send me one of their blushers because they were grateful for the nice comment I made on their blog :)
Everything would be free, and in return I had to review the product on my makeup blog.
Great!

Now check out what I got...

The package is so cute! ♥ That's why I fell in love with it :)
It's the Face Color Corset Blusher and I chose the #4 Pink Lady Fit, a beautiful pink with some subtle red in it.

I love the designs:

It's unique! It also reminds me of pirates, and therefore of Jack Sparrow ♥

Alright I admit, I was surprised when the package reached me, as on the internet in the photos the blusher seemed smaller than what I got! It's a good thing.

It's true that it took a long time to come but this was because they needed the FULL address therefore I had to precise in which district I was although usually when my family send me things from abroad they don't necessarily need too. In addition I live in a small island.

So I took my fluffy brush to try it out...

I really love the colour! Having a medium pigmentation, I could easily control how much I wanted to apply, and for the photos I applied more than I use to in case it didn't appear on camera because the colour appears so natural on my cheeks and very soft :) I fortunately chose the right colour!

I didn't want to put on a lipstick because then your attention will more be focused on the lips so... :D

About 'does it last long' question I dare say that I never had a problem about my blush fading away during a whole day and this one is no exception! Of course if you cry... it automatically vanishes.

In all I'm very satisfied with this product and this has become my favourite blusher already :) It's also true that here we don't have much variety that's why I get so excited about it!

Garnier Light Fairness Face Wash: A Review!

I've been using this product for more than a month now and I love it! It has a pure lemon essence, and it gently exfoliates and clarifies the skin. It's for all skin types.

This product really improved my skin's health.

What is written on it:

"Exposure to sun, pollution and harsh environment conditions makes skin appear dull and dark.

"Garnier Light Fairness Face Wash:
is an effective daily face wash that helps you recover a clear, radiant, even complexion.

"How does it work?
Enriched with exfoliating pure lemon essence, it's formula cleanses and clarifies the skin thoroughly and removes impurities that make skin dull.

"Usage:
Apply on wet face. Gently massage in with fingertips avoiding the eye contour. Rinse thoroughly. Use twice daily. Follow up with Light fairness + dark spots prevention daily moisturiser."

What I think of it:
It's just wonderful! I use this in the morning and at night before going to sleep... and my skin breathes more easily 24/24. It really refreshes your skin. Therefore that's how I felt the need to share this with you :)

So it's like a toothpaste tube and you must squeeze to get the product out:

In addition you don't need that much. A little bit on your finger and you're ready to relieve your face!

I bought it for US$ 4.59!
Garnier is indeed a very good brand! Excellent for a healthy body!

L.I.P.S Series - ColorTrend Lipsticks Review

If you have read my Browny's For Fall post where I present all my brown lipsticks, you know that I have some ColorTrend ones.
In this post I'm going to show you my general impression on this brand concerning lipsticks and some other nice colours I own.

First of all I have two which are from the same collection and which comes from these packages:

I've never really wore these two colours outside and you'll see why...

Yes because these are... funky colours? Not everyday colours anyway!

The first one is a gold colour:

In the photo it appears nude, but in fact it's very shimmering and golden, might wear that at a party maybe someday?

The second one is of a shiny lilac colour:

I largely prefer this one to the other! :)

Both have a medium pigmentation and this is rather disappointing because for such outstanding colours I would have preferred them to be more pigmented than that! Therefore to wear them I usually add another lipstick colour on my lips.
Though it's not subtle, because of the glitter.
I don't like the fact that when I put them on, the lipstick don't feel good on my lips, the colour doesn't deposit itself well.
But I prefer the lilac one because it's slightly smoother when I apply it than the gold one. Maybe because I use the lilac one most.

I have a third ColorTrend that I love :) it has a different packaging:

The colour is lovely!

It allows a smooth application and its glossy look is beautiful! This is a sweet red indeed! It's mediumly pigmented and looks more natural than the two other above-mentioned colours.

I love bold lips, though I never wear them. When I go out I'm go mostly for the subtle side of makeup, but when I try looks at home, I like to wear dark colours.

There are especially two colours than I'd love to share with you! Perfect for fall and for nude eye makeup.

The first one is...

Purple

Indeed purple is my favourite colour! (I don't know how many times I've said that LOL)

This gorgeous colour comes from my Luminelle lipstick:

who's life is almost over anyway :(

The second colour is...

Red

Of course.

I often add some black eyeshadow to it when I put this colour on because I love dark red... It just feels like it's so bloody :)

This lovely red comes from my Yria lipstick:

Indeed this tube is almost finished too... I'll have to buy another red lipstick! This is a must for me!! :D

Tip: The two lipsticks will have an even more gorgeous effect when applying gloss on :)

These colours are also lovely for Halloween!

Unfortunately I have to sit at two exams on that day but I'll try to dress up anyway and do a funky makeup look!

(yep, here in Mauritius we don't celebrate Halloween that much... it's not in our traditions, though some people do. Like me ^^)

Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof REVIEW

Anyway, let's get to the mascara review:

The package comes like this:

It has a fun weird shape!

And the spoon-like applicator is... wow.
I heard that most people hate this mascara because of this but I think that with some practice (after 2 applications it was as if I was using this babe for months!), it's fun to use! It's just so nice to change habits from time to time :)

But what is annoying is that the spoon is rather big and it's way too large for my lower lashes! Fortunately I don't have the habit to apply mascara on the lower lashes now... I've heard that Chinese girls don't so... and it's really better because then my upper lashes really look longer!

The formula is awesome! It is indeed waterproof and lasts longer on my lashes than my usual CCUK mascara.
But I dare say that I have oily lower lids and it can smudge a little bit in the outer corner of my eyes at the end of the day. This sometimes annoys me... If I can't afford a primer, I think I'll go and buy an oil-free translucent powder!

Other than that, it really gives me long and thick noticeable lashes!

Other reviews have complained about the difficulty of removing the mascara... but I don't have any problems at all with that! I use my Baby Johnson Oil and it goes away in one swipe! :)
